The process
How BoatID works
Three steps, from a blank form to a permanent, shareable identity for your boat.
Register
Create a free account, then add your boat's details — vessel name, HIN, manufacturer, dimensions — plus your engine and trailer if you have them. Photos aren't required, but they help.
Verify
We run an automated check on your HIN and serial numbers. Then a person reviews it — usually within a day or two — before your BoatID is confirmed.
Access
Once verified, you get a permanent BoatID number, a shareable record page, and a QR code you can print and keep with the boat.
What verification checks for
Verification isn't just a box to tick — it's what makes a BoatID trustworthy to a buyer, an insurer, or the police.
Format check
We check your HIN follows the standard format used on UK and EU boats. This catches typos and clearly wrong numbers straight away.
Photo check
Someone reviews any photos you've added, checking they match the details you've submitted.
Human sign-off
A person — not just an algorithm — makes the final call and confirms your BoatID, or gets in touch if something needs a closer look.
What you end up with
A public record page for your boat, showing only what helps identify it — never your name, address, or where it's moored.
